The statue of Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Found inside Palazzo Pitti, a palace in Florence, Italy, situated on the south side of the River Arno and a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio. The palace was bought by the Medici family in 1549, the most powerful family in Italy throughout the Renaissance era. It grew as a great treasure house as later generations amassed paintings, plates, jewelry and luxurious possessions. Today, transformed from a royal palace to a museum, the Palazzo Pitti is owned by the Italian state.
