Lady Liberty stands tall in New York Harbor on Liberty Island. The iconic statue is a National Monument, cared for by the National Park Service. More importantly, the statue is a symbol of liberty and freedom and democracy.
History: France presented Lady Liberty as a gift to the United States to celebrate 100 years of independence in 1876. In one hand she holds the Declaration of Independence, and in the other she raises the torch of freedom. The Statue of Liberty began life as a dream in the mind of French sculptor Frdric Bartholdi. With help from architect Gustave Eiffel, of Eiffel Tower fame, the beautiful copper sculpture gained a strong steel framework, while American architect Richard Morris Hunt completed the collaboration between art and engineering by designing the base on which the statue would rest.
Characteristics: These Statue of Liberty minis would fit in an NYC diorama or national monuments school project. They are also perfect for Fourth of July party decorations.
Size: This inch-tall figure stands firm on its wide platform.
